Aykun wins with 281 kilograms
Day two of the European Junior and U23 Weightlifting Championships in Durrës, Albania, produced exceptionally close totals. In junior men’s 65 kg, Türkiye’s Burak Aykun lifted 123 kg in the snatch and 158 in the clean and jerk for 281 kg. He finished one kilogram ahead of Moldova’s Ion Badanev on 280. Italy’s Claudio Scarantino completed the podium with 279. These are results from 13 October 2026, recorded in the official EWF results book.
Another narrow U23 finish
In U23 men’s 60 kg, Bulgaria’s Deniz Danev won with 263 kg: 118 in the snatch and 145 in the clean and jerk. Georgia’s Giga Odikadze finished on 262, from 120 and 142. Armenia’s Seyran Khudanyan was third with 256. Odikadze lifted more in the snatch, but Danev built the decisive advantage in the second lift. The total tells the story of both exercises.
Habans takes 57 kg total silver
In junior women’s 57 kg, Yauheniya Ilyina topped the standings with 190 kg. Spain’s Elena Habans Aguerrea recorded an 85 kg snatch and 102 kg clean and jerk for 187 and second place. Polina Kononchenko completed the podium on 181. These are total standings, which should not be confused with medals in each individual lift.
Reading a close result
Official columns separate the best snatch, best clean and jerk and their sum. Comparing them explains why leading one lift does not guarantee the total victory. In these two men’s categories, one kilogram separated gold and silver. The championship is scheduled for 12–19 October. This report covers completed competitions, without anticipating medals or final standings from the remaining days.
